How to Check if Your Credit Report is Frozen
If your credit report is frozen, WealthRabbit may not be able to automatically verify your identity. This verification is required to open your SIMPLE IRA account. In such cases, you’ll need to upload your SSN card to complete your account setup.
A credit freeze restricts access to your credit file, preventing lenders or financial institutions from viewing it without your permission.
If you’re unsure whether your credit report is frozen, you can check directly with the credit bureaus online, through their mobile apps, or by phone or mail.

How to Lift or Thaw a Credit Freeze
If your report is frozen, you can lift the freeze online, using a mobile app, by phone, or by mail. Each bureau handles freezes separately, so you’ll need to lift it with all three if necessary.
There are two ways to lift a credit freeze:
- Temporarily Thaw: Schedule specific days or a short period when your report will be unfrozen, then automatically refrozen afterward. This is ideal if you know when your verification will occur.
- Remove Permanently: Completely unfreeze your report starting from the date you choose. This option is useful if you expect ongoing verification checks or a longer process, such as opening multiple accounts.
If you’re mailing your request, include your name, address, date of birth, Social Security number, and copies of identification documents (like a government-issued ID and a recent utility bill).
Refreeze Your Credit Report
Once your account verification is complete, you can refreeze your credit report at any time by returning to the bureau’s website, app, or by phone.
- Log in to your account or call the bureau’s number.
- Follow the prompts to refreeze your report.
- If submitting by mail, include proof of identity (such as your driver’s license and address verification).
Refreezing your credit keeps your personal information secure after your verification is complete.
